Felicity Kate Spencer was born in Hong Kong to English parents - a sun-kissed ex-pat baby! There is something intangibly Asian in many of Felicity's original designs though the stay was short - the family sailed for England a year and a half later and settled in Cheltenham in the Cotswolds, a hundred miles west of London. One of Felicity Kate's earliest works was a pen and ink on her younger brother's legs! Fast forward to University of Bristol for a degree in French and Art History which included a year in Paris - from her tiny attic room she looked out across the streets and painted greeting cards, theatrical posters and tapestry designs when she wasn't teaching English or walking the flea markets!

In 1987 Felicity Kate flew West to Aurora, NY to apprentice and design with Victoria and Richard McKenzie-Childs. She learned the business from design concept to quality control by working in all areas of production - ceramics, glass, home furnishings and complements. French was put to use in coordinating a collection of tassels and passementerie manufactured by a Paris based firm. Felicity painted the original art for the still successful MacLachlan collection and oversaw the decoration of the original Madison Avenue flagship store.

In 1991 Felicity married Glenn Miller, a designer/builder, and they make their home with two cats, Doodah the dog and a fish in a farmhouse in King Ferry, New York. Miss Elian Grace came in 1996 and Miss Lowry Morgen in 2003. The family, friends and the changing colours and patterns of the Finger Lakes are daily inspirations for Felicity's creations.

Spreading wings for freelance work Felicity designed first with a Boston based linen company and then became the sole artist for eight years with Gratitude and Co., a prominent stationery and gift wrap firm selling to Kate's Paperie, Neiman Marcus, and Anthropologie. Freelancing also brought mural commissions and colour and design consultation in private homes and stores from Canandaigua, NY to Palm Beach, Florida.

"Felicity" was formed in 2004 of a happy collaboration with Marketing Director and friend Jeanne Young of Fayetteville, NY, whose background is in jewelry design, sales and marketing. Jeanne plays a vital role in new business and liaison with licensees. They displayed Felicity's work – described as "elegantly whimsical" - at the Surtex licensing show in May 2005 and secured licenses with Westminster Fibers and Caspari. Both companies launched product - fabric, a whole range of paper goods - in May 2006 which is sold in fabric, gift and department stores across the United States and in Europe. Further licenses with Woodkins Dolls, now Small World Toys, Inc. and Traditions by Pamela Kline were signed in 2007. Sheets with Felicity's designs of ballet slippers, fairies and vintage toy trucks were launched in 2008 and are featured on the Horchow website.

Felicity has designed a collection of finished goods made locally and lovingly on a small scale using fabrics from her collections with Free Spirit (a division of Westminster Fibers) paired with coordinating solids. Each bears the Felicity label denoting the simple joy in colour and pattern that is signature to the line. There is nothing mass produced about these goods and in many cases a customer is purchasing a one of a kind piece.
